Pointe Shoe Fittings FAQ

  • Please allow 1 hour for your first pointe shoe fitting

    • Arrive with any padding you like to wear and your previous pair of Pointe shoes (if applicable)
    • Please advise your fitter if your dance studio or company has any specific requests for your shoes or your padding

      Regular Fittings Are Still Important
: Even if you’re experienced, it's crucial to regularly check that your pointe shoes are still the right fit as your body and technique evolve over time.

Understand Your Foot’s Needs: As an experienced dancer, you likely know your foot shape and what kind of support you need. Communicate any changes in your technique, injury history, or foot concerns to your fitter so they can select shoes that accommodate these factors.

Assess Your Current Pointe Shoes: Bring your current pointe shoes to the fitting, even if they’re well-worn. Your fitter can assess the wear patterns and see how the shoe has been working for you, helping them suggest improvements or new models.

Don’t Just Rely on Your Previous Fit: While you may have been in a certain shoe style or brand for a while, remember that your feet can change with time, technique, and performance. Trying different options can sometimes provide better fit and comfort.

Consider Shoe Stiffness & Box Shape: Experienced dancers should pay attention to the stiffness of the shank and the shape of the box. As you progress, you might need a shoe with a stronger or more flexible shank, or a box that better accommodates your toes, arch, and overall foot shape.

    • We recommend trimming your toenails before your fitting so that you are comfortable whilst trying on shoes

Wear Proper Dance Attire: Come dressed in your regular dancewear, including tights and your leotard, so your fitter can see how your feet move and ensure the best fit.

Be Ready to Talk About Your Dancing: Your fitter will want to know how long you’ve been dancing, your current technique, and any specific challenges you’re facing with your feet. This helps them recommend the best pointe shoe for your needs.

Bring Your Questions: If you're unsure about anything, from how to care for your shoes to what type of shoe is best for your feet, don’t hesitate to ask! A good fitter will be happy to guide you.

Be Prepared to Try Multiple Pairs: Every foot is different! Be patient and open to trying on a few different brands or styles to find what works best for you.

  • Booking a pointe shoe fitting is essential to ensure you receive the proper attention and fit. By reserving a spot, we can allocate dedicated time and ensure the right team member is available to match your level of skill and provide expert guidance. This ensures you get the best fit for your feet, comfort, and performance needs.
